City Mint is a location based delivery app that is available for use in NYC and San Francisco. Basically, you can order food from local restaurants from your iPhone and have it delivered without price markups and delivery fees. It is also integrated with a community-based review site so users can read what others have to say.
A picture of the application is available at this link: http://appadvice.com/app/298772645
You can also view an interesting video on their site where a news reporter tried the application and had food delivered to her in Sheep Meadow in Central Park: http://www.citymint.com/wp/2010/07/recent-headlines/
SeamlessWeb is a successful online food ordering business that offers customers the convenience of order delivery and takeout meals online. Users of the web or application service simply enter the address, select a participating restaurant, order from the menu and wait for delivery.
Interesting approach by SeamlessWeb is that if you choose to pickup your orders, you can get paid in the process. Very clever marketing technique.
More of the service is available here http://www.seamlessweb.com/
A detailed description and picture of the app available here http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/seamlessweb/id381840917?mt=8
The app allows you to find the closest restaurant location using the iPad's GPS. The customer can order and pay directly from the iPad and pick up the food for take out. The app saves "favorite orders" so the customer can quickly re-order their favorite items.
Participating restaurants include: Subway, Outback Steakhouse, Baja Fresh, Fatburger, Fazoli's and more.
The company has developed iPhone and iPad applications, Facebook integration, and mobile ordering that links to the restaurant's POS system.
Restaurants can have location specific menu items and prices, customized menu item options, menu item photos, upselling techniques, menu item modification on the fly, complex coupon items and discounts, and deals and specials offered online. Restaurants can also define and manage delivery area, and manage time slots and slot capacities. The software also handles large orders for catering.
Customers can save favorites so they can make faster orders in the future. Customers can pay with credit card from the apps.
OrderTalk's customers include Buca de Beppo, Krispy Kreme, Moe's Southwest Grill, Yo! Sushi, and many more.
Apparently OrderTalk was posted somewhere else in this blog....
Chipotle has developed an app to order their food for take away.
The customer can find a Chipotle near them with the GPS feature. The entire menu is on the app categorized by burritos, bowls, soft tacos, crispy tacos, salads, sides and drinks. The app saves the customer's favorites for their next order. Customers can pay in advance by credit card. Additionally, open and closing times for each store are viewable from the app.
The ezWaiter Online Menu System is an interactive online menu for customers to order restaurant delivery and take-out via the web.
Some of the benefits of this system include: 1. Easy integration between system and restaurant's current website. The online menu system can be customized to align with the brand website. 2. Flexibility of passing minimal cost to customer. The charge per order to restaurants is $0.35, which can be set up as a delivery/service charge to customers. 3. Ease of setup. Once a restaurant signs up for this service, the restaurant can download the software immediately and start using it. 4. Responsiveness to customer demand. Restaurants can create coupons to stimulate demand during soft periods - a perfect avenue for revenue management.
One of ezWaiter's customers is Cafe Beau Soleil in Newport Beach.
Visit http://www.ezwaiter.com/index.php for more information. You can even run a demo version for free.
GrubHub is another consolidator that has both a web based and a iPhone interface that is available in select US cities. It allows you to enter an address or in the case of the iphone, it uses the phone's GPS to show you what the delivery options are. The app allows you to filter by cuisine and order online from restaurants that are closest to you, straight from the phone.
Livebookings, a London-based company, provides online reservations services for restaurants on their brand websites. New demand is also created for restaurants through Livebookings' partners such as Bookatable.com, lastminute.com, American Express and Time Out.
A key feature of Livebookings is allowing customers to book promotions and events. For example, a restaurant can run a Happy Hour promotion for the first 10 parties of 4 from 5 - 6pm, and Livebookings will send this offer to the restaurant's targeted customers. Isn't that a way of using rate fences to fill soft periods?
Livebookings' customers include Hilton, B.R. Guest Restaurants, Chad's Grill, and Bonefish Grill.
See http://www.livebookings.us/ to find out more about Livebookings.
While this is not strictly a online ordering app, it is an interesting iPhone app that attempts to aggregate information on the 'local' restaurants in an area. The app leaves out all chain and what they claim mediocre restaurants from the consideration set. It also is able to use the GPS info to make recommendations to users.
It is interesting that the app sorts restaurants near you not only by category or cuisine but also sorts by those restaurants that are offering deals/discounts at the time you are searching. If you find a particular discount that you want to avail, you just have to present the picture of the discount coupon on your phone upon arrival to the restaurant. The app also gives the users directions to the restaurant and an option to either call directly or visit the website.
OrderPizza is an application that allows you to order from any pizza establishment in your area. It stores your delivery information so you don't have to re-enter it for every different pizza place. Also, an interesting feature with this app, is that it also lets you order pizza in another area if you wanted to order for someone else. Meaning, a parent could order pizza to their child's dorm at college while they were at still at their home another state away.
Imagine "adding a barbecue chef to your cart" while you are ordering food for your next grill party?
ezb, a Singapore-based company specializing in grill and catering, allows customers to order an array of services ranging from cooked food to barbecue equipment via its website.
While this company is not considered a restaurant, it is still interesting to see how the wave of online reservations is extending to various players in the hospitality industry.
This application is not directly linked to the restaurant industry but it does involve food. The app FreshDirect allows you to create your grocery list and will then send it to your grocery store. The order is then delivered for you the next day. An application like this could easily be adapted to the restaurant industry to allow operators to place food orders through the application, especially orders for items that are needed quickly or that were forgotten on a regular order.

4food restaurant is introducing a concept it dubs as a "socially networked restaurant that serves fresh, delicious and nutritious food."
The online feature is revolutionary: you can build, order and promote your burger online. Each time someone buys that burger, you get 25 cents in your 4food account. Also, as part of its effort to be a socially networked restaurant, there's a deal where if you sign up to be a registered user, you can get $12 for your account.
"The burgers, nuggets, fries, salads and teas you like to order take a healthy turn. You get more local produce and no fillers or artificial ingredients. The signature 4food item is the "(W)holeburger," which is a donut-shaped patty made with a veggie filling. You choose your meat or vegetables. There's a fun build-it-yourself option on the 4foods website! So you could choose different breads, meats, vegetables and condiments to make endless combinations.

(they have an iPad concept as well, which I have presented in the 'iPad and Mobile applications' section)
Onosys is a for-contract software company that develops the online ordering systems for a variety of customers, including Papa John's, Panera, and Corner Bakery, among others. (http://www.onosys.com/Clients.aspx)
Each interface is designed for each client, and no two systems are identical. AS we saw in class, Panera's is highly customized to their own menu. See this demo on Papa John's: http://www.onosys.com/Tutorials/Overview/index.html
What I think is really interesting is that this system allows your to order into the future--like setting a catering date.
GetQuik started out as a northern California based online-ordering system with over 150 restaurants and San Francisco-area chains. Now the service has expanded into LA, Phoenix, and Las Vegas.
GetQuik has both an website for ordering and an iPhone/iPad interface--in app form and optimized website form.
What's different about GetQuik is the rewards program: the more you order online, the more points you get, which you can redeem for iPods, gift cards, etc.
Exit 41 who describe themselves as a "true innovator in the development of food ordering solutions for restaurants, evolving from a point-of-sale business to become the global market leader for integrated online, mobile, social, and phone-in ordering solutions," recently launched online ordering through the fbook of their customers.
The ordering system will connect through restaurant's POS systems to provide up to date pricing and availability.
Their latest customer to introduce the technology is Chicago's Wow Bao, an asian steamed bun restaurant and part of the Lettuce Entertain You Group.
Restaurant Biller (http://www.restaurantbiller.com/features.php) is an online ordering hosting site that targets smaller and less sophisticated clientele. They support smaller restaurants, pizza shops, delis and pubs by offering easily administered online ordering.
Whether they host the system or not customers receive orders through email and can easily change the times the system is operational, the menu items offered and whether the store will accept credit cards or not.
I like the simplicity of the app and some of the other systems would be too complicated for smaller operations.
Wagamamas's iphone app allows people to locate the nearest Wagamama restaurant and then browse the continuously updated menu to place their order. They can even customize their dishes by adding and removing ingredients. Orders are sent straight through to the kitchen, and up-to-the-minute status reports keep customers informed as to pick-up times. Secure payment options via the app include both debit and credit card.
This is not exactly a restaurant per se but we refer to the Octoberfest in Munich as the biggest restaurant in the country. It is set up with lots of tents you need reservations to get in. The Kaefer tent asks for a minimum of 1000 Euro revenue for 6 people and you have to pay that in advance when you make the reservation and you only have the table for 2.5 hours after that you need to go or you do have to pay again. It is unbelievable but some peoplejust do not show up, so this app allows the people running the tents to post free tables to fill up the space.

Mobile ordering Consumers can request a Panda Express menu by texting the keyword MENU to short code 466626. The consumer simply replies back with the number of the item that they want to order.
In return, consumers receive a text confirmation and a pick-up time.
The service allows Panda Express customers to order and pay ahead of time from their computer or mobile phone and schedule a time for express pickup at the Panda Express location of their choice. It makes it simple to create a meal, order and pay, and coordinate dinner pickup around one’s busy schedule.
The goal behind this new service is to ultimately drive incremental same-store sales.
Order Panda is also the first major chain launch of the new OLO order receiver device, developed by GoMobo and Peek, creators of the Time Magazine Gadget of the Year in 2008.
OLO is an off-premise ordering technology. It lets restaurants receive prepaid, off-premise orders, without adding an extra phone line or Internet connection.
GoMobo has mobile commerce-enabled other fast food giants. In August, Burger King entered the mobile commerce arena by letting consumers place orders and pay for them via their iPhone.
Burger King teamed up with GoMobo and PointAbout for the development and design of the application (see story).
Panda Express has a good reason to opt for SMS for its mobile ordering.
Working with numerous campuses all over the United States, Campusfood allows you to order from your favorite campus eatery, and have it waiting for you. You can do it online or by SMS.
Campusfood.com, Inc. is the nation's leading network of restaurants, providing innovative marketing to restaurant partners and offering online menus with interactive ordering for students and local communities. Campusfood continues to grow each year, adding campuses and restaurants to their roster.
Campusfood got its start in 1997 when President Michael Saunders, then a student at University of Pennsylvania, decided there was an easier and more convenient way to order his tuna hoagie than over the phone. Students now browse through menus and order food online with Campusfood making issues such as misplaced menus, busy signals, and order miscommunications obsolete.
Campusfood is a privately held company headquartered in New York, NY

doorstopdelivery.net is based in Orlando, FL and is continuously expanding. It offers restaurant to home delivery and charges three different delivery fees and order minimums based upon the orderer's home zip code. It allows for order from multiple restaurants to be delivered to one home at the same time (so one site can accommodate and deliver multiple demands such as Pizza and Middle Eastern food). T
Orderlunch.com is a food delivery system that allows businesses to order food through their website from local businesses menus and then orderlunch.com delivers it to the business. It is a win win situation for restaurants and local businesses, because restaurants get more business without having to staff a delivery person, and local businesses can order food from multiple restaurants for an individual or a whole company and have it arrive at a specified time.
It seems the type of business is everything from a small doctor's office to a Fortune 500 company, but the draw for both ends of the spectrum is 1) the ability to order a variety of foods through one site, 2) the ability to order in advance ( i.e. on sunday for the week), 3) The ability to request additional restaurants be added to the list of places to order from, and 4) The ability to know the food will arrive at the requested time.

This is a online food ordering portal for all the top restaurants in Philadelphia. You can order food online for pick up or delivery. Currently this is opeational only in areas in Philadelphia. Foodler is an online ordering system that allows you to type in your address, city, or zip and it will tell you where you can order from and what the cost is, what the delivery fee will be, what cuisine it is, what the rating is and how far it is from you. You can compare your options along any of these lines. Additionally, they run specials, which pop up on the side panel of the screen and tell you about special coupons or discounts you can use at specific locations. Lastly, you collect points, kind of like OpenTable points, for using the site and they go towards your account. Therefore, you have incentive to order through the website as opposed to over the phone or directly through the restaurant's website.
Lastly, you can just type in a keyword or dish you want and it will tell you what places have it. Once the results pop up, you can compare your options.
I would guess that it is mainly people in offices who order lunches in, college students who order food frequently, or people staying in on weekends and ordering take-out. It is a good site, because it allows you to compare all your options along many lines and it provides discounts. I think the discounts would incentivize certain markets, such as college students and young business people.

Delivery.com is a website that allows you to search by your address to find out which local restaurants deliver to you. I don't think it includes major chains, but it did come up with 5 local restaurants in Ithaca that deliver to my apartment: Collegetown Pizzeria, Hal's Delicatessen, Jade Garden, Sammy's Pizzeria, and Samurai Japanese.
The site includes ratings, delivery fee information, and the minimum amount for delivery, and links to the menu pages from each place. It looks very polished and simple.
This is the online site for the local Ithaca dining destination--Sticky Rice. You can order right from their Facebook page, although it is slightly confusing whether they want you to order right from their website or go to the facebook page. Either way, their food is pretty good and remember, they are closed Mondays!
This is a Hartford, CT based service that basically allows you to get delivery from ANY restaurant. For example, the fine-dining establishment I worked at allowed for takeout but had no delivery service. Waiter wheels would call for their customer, place the order, come pick it up, and then deliver it to the customer. They will also deliver beer, wine, flowers, etc, although they do have to charge quite a premium for this service!
This is a great and innovative service because it allows you to get delivery from places that do not deliver without leaving your home!
Just - Eat is a online Take-away order website. This concept has already been established in 8 different countries like Canada , Baelgium , Norway etc. The webiste has more than 8000 restaurants registered. The web-site also includes discounts for specific restaurants and meal-deals.
This website covers most of the USA. The website enlists all restaurants registered , within the customers zip-code and neighborhood are so as to give more variety and options. It gives the menus of the restaurants as well as the average time it would take for delivery.
Although this next one isn't a restaurant, it is an interesting concept that's been tried a few different times over the last few years.
Bartab allows you to pre-purchase drink tickets and then either use them yourself (selfish) or share them with your friends through Facebook. You redeem your drink at the bar using your mobile phone. All drinks are $1, limits on how many you can use per day and per hour.
Every time a drink is sent, a Facebook wall post and news feed is generated using the venue's logo and drink. They claim 80% of Bartab customers redeeming a drink stay for a second drink, sometimes more, although it doesn't say how they collect that data.
http://www.iconcessionstand.com This one is a bit different. This app allows you to order snacks and souvenirs at sporting events right from your seat. Just impute your order into the app and your nachos, hot dog, and pretzel will be delivered right to you without missing a play.
http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/finance/delivery-droid_fxnc.html This one is from the other end of the ordering spectrum. This is an app designed specifically for delivery drivers. they can enter order info, navigate to their destination, and calculate tips and mileage pay. Every delivery needs this app to make their lives easier.
FoodHub is a subsidiary of Ecotrust, an Oregon-based company that focuses on 'reliable prosperity.'

I think this is a good example of selling ice cream as an “experience”. From eCreamery.com, customers can create their own ice cream flavor. In step 1, customers select the base mix from sorbetto, gelato or ice cream. In step 2 and 3, customers can choose two flavors and two optional mix-ins; the choices of flavors and mix-ins are recommended by eCreamery based on the selection of base from the first step. Lastly, customers can select their prefer packaging and name the ice cream, and the name will be printed on the container! Free delivery by UPS.
efooddepot.com
This is an online grocery shopping website. The most interesting feature is that customers can shop foods by origins- ethnicity, country or regions. For example, under the “country” section, countries are presented by different flags. It also shows how many product(s) available for a certain country from the menu. Free shipping for any purchase that exceeds US$75, otherwise, it charges US$4.88 for delivery. I consider this website a good one for international students to heal our “homesick”. :)
I was curious to see how much a good online ordering program can increase revenues. Domino's, which is definitely a trend setter in this area, increased revenues by 29% in the UK. I could not find a comparison of Domino's orline ordering compared to Pizza Hut or Papa John's, but it would be interesting to see. Even checking out the online ordering system of the 3 largest American pizza chains shows a huge difference.
Many restaurants claim that online ordering boosts their check average as much as 70%. Maybe the most important thing is not what the online ordering site does, but just that it is there and that your customer knows it. Regardless, with average check increases this high, it seems reasonable that maybe people online do not feel the pressure of ordering quickly due to the long line behind them.
Maybe we should suggest this to Panera. They only have online ordering in certain locations. I could not order online for the Ithaca store. There could be some lost revenue potential here.
Eat24Hours.com is a website that focuses on food delivery at all hours of the day. Users can search for take-out and delivery restaurants by type of cuisine and restaurant location. The banner at the top of the website highlights Chinese cuisine, pizza, Thai food, sushi, and Indian cuisine.
When users enter their zip code and food preferences into the website, the website suggests local restaurants that will deliver food 24 hours. The website is free for users to order food, and users can create a profile that records their preferences.

CityWaiter.com is an online ordering and marketing provider for restaurants. Currently they are pushing their OnlineWaiter application for smart phones and handhelds, although they also do online menu conversion, marketing, menu development, and "customer retention marketing."
Their parent company RioTech, LLC has a defunct website.
The software appears to be very similar to some of the options mentioned above, although I could not find their application in the Apple store.
By providing several different packages, CityWaiter is catering to a large variety of establishments that are interested in capitalizing on the online ordering and marketing trend.
Here is a demo of their product (not great) http://www.citywaiter.com/demo/order/
The Wine Library, a family owned, New Jersey based, wine retailer has very effectively used online ordering over the last few years to grow its business. While not exactly a restaurant, they definitely have a very foodie clientele.
The company utilizes blast emails and tweets to advertise specials and packages that are offered for a very limited time and are a very good deal. They also offer delivery, so you can sit at your office and order wine to your house. A lot of their campaigns focus on countdowns, deadlines, and "limited time offerings," as well as slogans such as "best deal ever!" and "deal of the century."
By packaging several bottles together they offer a discount without disclosing specific prices per bottle. For example they may offer a package of 3 bottles at $250 value for $125, but it will have a $25 bottle, $75 bottle, and $150 bottle in it, but will not tell you specific bottle discounts. This makes it very difficult to compete with them.
In addition to using online ordering and services to advertise and promote their deals, Wine Library capitalizes heavily on the internet in their general marketing, with a WebTV show, online wine classes, and now (although not online) a Sirius XM radio show.
The website for this restaurant chain allows consumers to order pizzas, salads, sandwiches, and other specialty items online. When consumers log into the website, they need to select their state and city. Once they identify their location, the website prompts them to choose a store location and menu items. The steps are easily outlined as step one, step two, and step three.
Once their order is completed, the consumers must go to the store to pick up their food. This application will mostly likely be used by consumers who are familiar with the California Pizza Kitchen concept. These consumers need to know the location of the store prior to placing their order. Additionally, when the consumers order online, they are most likely knowledgeable about the menu. They do not need service staff to help them make menu decisions.
Here is the link to the online ordering system for California Pizza Kitchen: http://www.cpk.com/order-online/
MenuStation.com is an up and coming service out of Northern California. This is a go-to website for numerous restaurant's menus. You can search by location or cuisine. Once the appropriate restaurant and menu is found, the user can place their order.
What is especially unique about this service is its ability to work with a restaurant's website or work independently. So, if a restaurant does not have a website, they can get the most out of the service by saving money on constructing their own website. If a restaurant does have a website, it can share resources to enhance the experience.
To me, the best part of this service is the layout of the menus. There is no digging for information and all formats are standardized so customers will not be confused on what they're ordering. It's a great idea and as more restaurants get on board, I feel that it will be a great place to compare menu options across different restaurants in the area with minimal effort and, in the end, increase the likelihood of customers ordering out. This will free up space for customers that could otherwise eat-in.
This site provides authentic dishes from the world with recipes, educates people the dish’s origin and culture and sell packets contains “ready-to-cook” ingredients. What this site makes it more unique is each packet has all of the pre-measured hard to find spices, sauce and dried ingredients, preparation instructions and even shopping list for fresh items. It will be very useful for customers who have difficulties for finding information about a certain country’s traditional dish or want to try the dishes before they travel to the destination.

Clicktogo.com is an ideal service in transforming websites to providing online ordering to your restaurant. According to their statistics, online ordering will significantly improve the average check. By allowing people to order at their pace and convenience, the average check can improve, on average, by 33%.
Additionally, customer satisfaction and loyalty improves as clicktogo.com personally creates a loyalty program for your restaurant. Also, click to go tracks and stores customer data so it's at your finger tips at a moments notice.
Essentially, click to go keeps you on your toes rather than creating and abandoning your new site, as many programs do today.
One last thing that Click to go does that separates it from the competition is using social media such as facebook and twitter to help advertise your menu.
Good2Go is based in what are called the Quad cities in the Midwest. It offers online ordering from 14 different restaurants. Good2Go is a network of restaurants that makes its money from subscription fees as well as a portion of each order placed.
This site shows that the online ordering phenomenon exists beyond the coasts and urban centers of the ocuntry.
Online ordering works for restaurants as well as with restaurants. Four Seasons works with over 20,000 foodservice establishments to deliver food products. They offer many exotic meats and cheeses as well as the basic canned and frozen foods as well as dry goods.
This service seems like a natural fit for the restaurant industry as a consumer. Restaurants close long after normal business hours and are often busy during most of the normal work day. It is often difficult for them to place orders with their distributors with confidence.
Traditional distributors rely on voicemail for their clients to leave orders at the end of the night. My guess is that it won't be long before SYSCO and other, smaller distributors begin to use online ordering applications of their own. This is especially true as restaurants learn about the power of their own online ordering and reservation systems.
Lionmenus.com is an online food ordering site for the Penn State community. Nearly every restaurant in State College is listed on the website, and from each you can order for delivery or pickup. Information about each restaurant, such as their location, phone number, and hours of operation, are also listed. The thing that makes lionmenus.com different from other food-ordering websites is that it caters directly to the Penn State students. PSU students typically get steep discounts on food for most of the restaurants, which makes it a popular site in the area. Also part of lionmenus is lionbars, which shows the hours of operations, drink specials, and events for all the bars in state college as well.
More information can be found at: http://www.lionmenus.com/index.aspx
Hungryhens.com is a Delaware-based online food ordering site. Most of the restaurants in the Delaware area can be found on the website, and from each you can order for delivery or pickup. Information about each restaurant, such as their location, phone number, and hours of operation, are also listed. The website was developed by current students at University of Delaware. The website has grown since and now incorporates facebook, blogs, and other social media sources.

Now going through a re-branding phase, this online ordering system is a corporate catering and residential delivery service featuring online food ordering to Asheville, North Carolina.
The company is now called as the "Valet Gourmet" and has a repertoire of 30 of the most common restaurants specializing in a variety of cuisines (ranging from Indian to Japanese). For corporate catering functions, they service all of Western North Carolina/surrounding areas and for residential delivery, they service the Asheville area & its surrounding communities. The minimum order is only $10 and the delivery time is between 45-60 minutes.
Although their usual hours of operations are 10am-2pm & 4pm-10pm, but with a 24hr notice they also do breakfast deliveries. The website is very user friendly and even gives an estimated time of delivery along with offering coupons & discounts, etc.
Beverage Media is a publication that keeps beverage professionals up to date with the latest beverage trends as well as a comprehensive price list of the larger distributors. What is great about Beverage Media is they have taken wine/spirit ordering and put it online so that you don't have to call your rep; you simply add what you need to your cart and check out. Although this service is limited to the East Coast, I foresee it making its way through the rest of the country because anyone who has every had to order from a distributor can tell you that reps are a pain and can never get your order right.
Sysco, one of the largest foodservice distributors in the Nation, has created an online ordering system which allows restauranteurs to place their orders anytime. Generally, Chefs inventory their food after service, generate an order, then call their distributor and leave a message what they need to order for the delivery. Using this online ordering system, Chefs can place the order themselves, expediate the process, and ensure proper products/quantities are ordered. In addition to being able to place an order, Chefs can also track their orders as it is fufilled and then delivered.
McDonald's, the venerable dining institution of the world, has a comprehensive online ordering in Singapore. Beginning in August 2005, McDonald's offers 24/7 delivery with no minimum order. However, a nominal fee of $3 is imposed on every order. Menu selection is priced 5 - 15 cents higher than restaurant menu.
Contrary to Domino's which gives the customers all the options to personalise their pizza, McDonald's does not allow "alterations" to the standard fares, i.e. "special orders" are not allowed. One can't ask "to hold the mayo" or add extra lettuce. No additional condiments are allowed as well.
Hilton Worldwide launched a Hilton Request Upon Arrival (HRUA) ordering system to enhance guest experience. An email will be sent to guest to invite them to order certain amenities to be prepared in advance. Guests may order fruit or cheese platter, specific brands of beer/wine/liquor and even certain desserts item such as cheese cake. Online ordered products are priced comparably to Room Service order.
This pre-order service enable F & B to skim more revenue by enticing guest to order food items even before their arrival. Upon careful coordination with Front Office, F & B can place the amenities prior to guest arrival. It does set a nice welcoming touch for the guest.
Food items sold tend to be those with long "shelf life" and can withstand room temperature. Hot food is not normally offered.

This website is focused on San Francisco, Vegas, Los Angeles & Phoenix.
It is a regular online food ordering system, but the thing that sets it apart is its scrolling pictures of electronic items that it awards as gifts to all its customers.
The website even has a blog! There are a lot of videos, offers, etc that keep you busy once you land on the website!
There seems to be a lot of info but I think what I like about this website is the way it has formed its points & rewards system.
Wine.woot.com launched in beta in May 2006 largely due to the success of the original Woot.com in its first two years of existence. Woot.com is an American Internet Retailer which offers one discount product a day – generally a piece of technology or an electronic gadget. Similarly, Wine.Woot.com offers a selection of five discount wines each day that are chosen by outside wine experts.
The company describes the reason for their success in the following way: Because winemakers make marketing predictions far in advance of product release – just like electronics manufacturers – wine inventory is equally subject to overstock, excess, and end-of-life opportunities. And wineries, like pretty much every other kind of manufacturer, are always clamoring for attention outside of those crowded store shelves.
So every weekday, wine.woot.com offers a deal on wine or related accessories. For additional information or photos, visit the website listed above.
Clickeats.com is, from the customer's point of view, and online ordering site for about 10 different cities/districts in Washington State, including Seattle. Visitors to the site can search by neighborhood or cuisine and find matching profiles that give basic info about delivery fees, time for delivery, etc. A second click gets you started with their menu and the rest of the online order (and delivery for those who provide it) process.
As a customer, you are required to start a profile with your first order. You then develop a list of "my restaurants" which keeps track of your favorite places and your ordering preferences. You also receive an online newsletter about clickeats.
As a restaurant, clickeats provides basic services like developing a website from scratch, or putting their features into the restaurant's pre-existing site. Features include reservations with guest reports, online ordering with guest reports, gift card sales, advertising on clickeats site and in newsletter.
For more info, check out http://www.clickeats.com/Clickeats/
Gimmegrub.com is another online ordering hub. This one actually started in 2002 in California and has now expanded its reach to 17 states.
The system actually sends the order to the restaurant by fax, which was a bit suprising to me--the fax machine at our restaurant was only checked a few times a day, guess we would have to change that! Anyway the company explains that the system can "see" when an order hasn't gone through the fax machine properly, and proudly states that it will get right on the phone with the restuarant and the customer until the order goes through properly. It kinda gave me impression that something goes wrong a lot, maybe they should update their technology...but it is spreading across the US, so I guess it works well enough.
Restaurant operators can become members as "mom and pop" places or as franchises. Membership includes customer report data and menu updates.
It seems like the good thing about this one is you get really personalized service from the two owners of the site.

The ezWaiter Online Menu System is an interactive online menu for customers to order restaurant delivery and take-out via the web.
ReplyDeleteSome of the benefits of this system include:

Livebookings, a London-based company, provides online reservations services for restaurants on their brand websites. New demand is also created for restaurants through Livebookings' partners such as Bookatable.com, lastminute.com, American Express and Time Out.
ReplyDeleteA key feature of Livebookings is allowing customers to book promotions and events.

ReplyDeleteWhile this is not strictly a online ordering app, it is an interesting iPhone app that attempts to aggregate information on the 'local' restaurants in an area.

ReplyDeleteezb, a Singapore-based company specializing in grill and catering, allows customers to order an array of services ranging from cooked food to barbecue equipment via its website.
While this company is not considered a restaurant, it is still interesting to see how the wave of online reservations is extending to various players in the hospitality industry.
The company's website is http://www.ezb.com.sg/
This application is not directly linked to the restaurant industry but it does involve food. The app FreshDirect allows you to create your grocery list and will then send it to your grocery store. The order is then delivered for you the next day. An application like this could easily be adapted to the restaurant industry to allow operators to place food orders through the application, especially orders for items that are needed quickly or that were forgotten on a regular order.

ReplyDelete4food restaurant is introducing a concept it dubs as a "socially networked restaurant that serves fresh, delicious and nutritious food."

Exit 41 who describe themselves as a "true innovator in the development of food ordering solutions for restaurants, evolving from a point-of-sale business to become the global market leader for integrated online, mobile, social, and phone-in ordering solutions," recently launched online ordering through the fbook of their customers.

Restaurant Biller (http://www.restaurantbiller.com/features.php) is an online ordering hosting site that targets smaller and less sophisticated clientele. They support smaller restaurants, pizza shops, delis and pubs by offering easily administered online ordering.

I like the simplicity of the app and some of the other systems would be too complicated for smaller operations.
Wagamamas's iphone app allows people to locate the nearest Wagamama restaurant and then browse the continuously updated menu to place their order. ReplyDeleteThis is not exactly a restaurant per se but we refer to the Octoberfest in Munich as the biggest restaurant in the country.

Consumers can request a Panda Express menu by texting the keyword MENU to short code 466626.
Panda Express has a good reason to opt for SMS for its mobile ordering.

www.orderlunch.com
ReplyDeleteOrderlunch.com is a food delivery system that allows businesses to order food through their website from local businesses menus and then orderlunch.com delivers it to the business. It is a win win situation for restaurants and local businesses, because restaurants get more business without having to staff a delivery person, and local businesses can order food from multiple restaurants for an individual or a whole company and have it arrive at a specified time.
It seems the type of business is everything from a small doctor's office to a Fortune 500 company, but the draw for both ends of the spectrum is 1) the ability to order a variety of foods through one site, 2) the ability to order in advance ( i.e. on sunday for the week), 3) The ability to request additional restaurants be added to the list of places to order from, and 4) The ability to know the food will arrive at the requested time.

www.foodler.com
ReplyDeleteFoodler is an online ordering system that allows you to type in your address, city, or zip and it will tell you where you can order from and what the cost is, what the delivery fee will be, what cuisine it is, what the rating is and how far it is from you.
I think the discounts would incentivize certain markets, such as college students and young business people.

eCreamery.com
ReplyDeleteI think this is a good example of selling ice cream as an “experience”.

ReplyDeleteMaybe we should suggest this to Panera. They only have online ordering in certain locations. I could not order online for the Ithaca store. There could be some lost revenue potential here.

Eat24Hours
ReplyDeleteEat24Hours.com is a website that focuses on food delivery at all hours of the day. Users can search for take-out and delivery restaurants by type of cuisine and restaurant location. The banner at the top of the website highlights Chinese cuisine, pizza, Thai food, sushi, and Indian cuisine.

ReplyDeleteCityWaiter.com is an online ordering and marketing provider for restaurants. Currently they are pushing their OnlineWaiter application for smart phones and handhelds, although they also do online menu conversion, marketing, menu development, and "customer retention marketing."
ReplyDeleteTheir parent company RioTech, LLC has a defunct website.
The software appears to be very similar to some of the options mentioned above, although I could not find their application in the Apple store.
By providing several different packages, CityWaiter is catering to a large variety of establishments that are interested in capitalizing on the online ordering and marketing trend.
Here is a demo of their product (not great)

The Wine Library, a family owned, New Jersey based, wine retailer has very effectively used online ordering over the last few years to grow its business. While not exactly a restaurant, they definitely have a very foodie clientele.
ReplyDeleteThe company utilizes blast emails and tweets to advertise specials and packages that are offered for a very limited time and are a very good deal.

California Pizza Kitchen
ReplyDeleteThe website for this restaurant chain allows consumers to order pizzas, salads, sandwiches, and other specialty items online.

MenuStation.com is an up and coming service out of Northern California. This is a go-to website for numerous restaurant's menus. You can search by location or cuisine. Once the appropriate restaurant and menu is found, the user can place their order.
ReplyDeleteWhat is especially unique about this service is its ability to work with a restaurant's website or work independently.

ReplyDeleteAdditionally, customer satisfaction and loyalty improves as clicktogo.com personally creates a loyalty program for your restaurant.

Four Seasons Food Distributor
ReplyDeletehttp://www.fourseasonsfood.com/Index.aspx

ReplyDeleteNow going through a re-branding phase, this online ordering system is a corporate catering and residential delivery service featuring online food ordering to Asheville, North Carolina.

Beverage Network
ReplyDeletehttp://www.bevnetwork.com/
Beverage Media is a publication that keeps beverage professionals up to date with the latest beverage trends as well as a comprehensive price list of the larger distributors. What is great about Beverage Media is they have taken wine/spirit ordering and put it online so that you don't have to call your rep; you simply add what you need to your cart and check out. Although this service is limited to the East Coast, I foresee it making its way through the rest of the country because anyone who has every had to order from a distributor can tell you that reps are a pain and can never get your order right.
eSysco
ReplyDeletehttp://www.sysco.com/customer/order_entry.asp
Sysco, one of the largest foodservice distributors in the Nation, has created an online ordering system which allows restauranteurs to place their orders anytime. Generally, Chefs inventory their food after service, generate an order, then call their distributor and leave a message what they need to order for the delivery. Using this online ordering system, Chefs can place the order themselves, expediate the process, and ensure proper products/quantities are ordered. In addition to being able to place an order, Chefs can also track their orders as it is fufilled and then delivered.

ReplyDeleteMcDonald's, the venerable dining institution of the world, has a comprehensive online ordering in Singapore. Beginning in August 2005, McDonald's offers 24/7 delivery with no minimum order. However, a nominal fee of $3 is imposed on every order. Menu selection is priced 5 - 15 cents higher than restaurant menu.
ReplyDeleteContrary to Domino's which gives the customers all the options to personalise their pizza, McDonald's does not allow "alterations" to the standard fares, i.e. "special orders" are not allowed. One can't ask "to hold the mayo" or add extra lettuce. No additional condiments are allowed as well.

Hilton Request Upon Arrival(tm)
ReplyDeleteHilton Worldwide launched a Hilton Request Upon Arrival (HRUA) ordering system to enhance guest experience.
Hot food is not normally offered.

www.getquik.com
ReplyDeleteThis website is focused on San Francisco, Vegas, Los Angeles & Phoenix.

Wine.Woot.com
ReplyDeleteWine.woot.com launched in beta in May 2006 largely due to the success of the original Woot.com in its first two years of existence. Woot.com is an American Internet Retailer which offers one discount product a day – generally a piece of technology or an electronic gadget. Similarly, Wine.Woot.com offers a selection of five discount wines each day that are chosen by outside wine experts.
The company describes the reason for their success in the following way:
Because winemakers make marketing predictions far in advance of product release – just like electronics manufacturers – wine inventory is equally subject to overstock, excess, and end-of-life opportunities.
ReplyDeleteAs a customer, you are required to start a profile with your first order.
ReplyDeleteThe system actually sends the order to the restaurant by fax, which was a bit suprising to me--the fax machine at our restaurant was only checked a few times a day, guess we would have to change that!
